Fellside Pudding

4 oz grated raw potato
4 oz seedless raisins
4 oz grated raw carrot
one ounce candied lemon peel
4 oz Demerara sugar
one egg (beaten)
4 oz fresh breadcrumbs
1dessertspon treacle or golden syrup
4 oz shredded suet
half teaspoon baking powder
4 oz currants or sultanas
half teaspoon baking powder
level teaspoon ground nutmeg

Mix together all dry ingredients. Add carrot and potato. Mix in all the dried fruits, peel and treacle. Sir in the egg and mild if necessary to make a fairly stiff mixture. Put into a buttered basin, cover well but leave space for expansion. Steam for 2 1/2 hours.
