Neddin Cake

Cakes
Northumberland

Form of fruit cake known anecdotally, and from the poem 'Echoes of the Tyne' of 2012;

Martha's neddin-cake rests
like a full moon on the scullery workbench,
the smell of warm dough
wafting along the passage to the end-room
where Nancy keeps her saving
