Rumbal Whitings

Fish
Kent

A tradition at Folkestone where eight of the largest and best whitings were chosen out of every boat and sold separately. The money from this sale funded a Christmas feast, called a rumbal, for each boat crew. May originally have been an offering for St. Rumwold, to whom a chapel was dedicated near Folkestone
