Banana and Date Tea Loaf

Sweet teabread with chopped banana and dates mixed-in. The receipt here, the earliest we could find, unusually uses granary flour.

Banana and date loaf
You need: 8oz granary flour, 4 tspns baking powder, 2oz butter or margarine, 1lb bananas peeled and mashed, 2oz soft brown sugar, 2oz stoned dates chopped, 2 eggs beaten. Grease a 1 1/2 loaf tin and line base with greaseproof paper. Mix flour and baking powder and rub in fat. Add remaining ingredients and beat well. Turn mixture into a tin and bake at 350F. Gas 4, for about an hour. Approximate cost: 70p.
