Bible Cake or Scripture Cake

Cakes

A novelty cake made using ingredients mentioned in the Bible, a favourite at dissenting chapel teas. The receipt might include, for instance;

allspice (Song of Solomon 4:10: "all manner of spices")
almonds (Numbers 17:23: "bore ripe almonds")
baking powder (Amos 4:5: "of that which is leavened")
cinnamon (Exodus 30:23: "of sweet cinnamon")
dates (Exodus 15:27: "there were seventy palms")
eggs (Isaiah 10:14: "one gathereth eggs")
figs (Isaiah 34:4: "fig from the fig tree")
flour (Leviticus 2:5: "fine flour, unleavened")
honey (Judges 14:18: "what is sweeter than honey")
oil (Numbers 11:8: "cake baked with oil")
raisins (1 Samuel 25:18: "a hundred clusters of raisins")
salt (Leviticus 2:13: "season with salt")
sugar (Jeremiah 6:20: "and the sweet cane")
Then, Follow Solomon's advice for making a good boy (Proverbs 23:14 "Thou shalt beat him with the rod") and do as Tamar did (2 Samuel 13:8 " Tamar ... made cakes in his sight, and did bake the cakes.")
