Soda-raised sweet bread with sweet spices, peel and marmalade mixed-in.

Marmalade teabread

7oz plain flour
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon baking powder
2oz butter
2oz light brown sugar
4 tablespoons marmalade
1 egg beaten
3 tablespoons milk
1oz candied peel

grease a loaf tin 2lb in size and line with greasproof paper. Put flour, baking powder and powdered ginger in a bowl. Add butter and rub in to resemble breadcrumbs, stir in sugar. Mix together, marmalade, egg, and most of milk and mix dry ingredients to a soft dought. Turn into prepared tin and press candied peel onto top of mix. Bake 170c 325F gas 3 for 1 1/4 hours
