Orange slices covered with sugar and brandy, rum, or Madeira (Soyer 1845)

369. Orange Salad.- Choose six oranges not too large, cut them in thin slices crossways, remove the pips, lay them flat in a dish, cover over with a quarter of a pound of sugar, a gill of brandy, rum, or Madeira; stir them, and serve.
